What's so special about this soap??
What is so special about our soap, you ask? Well, we, like many handcrafters, utilize the cold process method to make our soap. Cold process is the act of mixing fixed oils (oils such as olive, coconut, palm, etc.) with an alkali (lye or sodium hydroxide). The result is a chemical process called saponification, where the composition of the oils change when reacted with lye to create solid soap.
Soap is one of those day-to-day products we take for granted, but people have been making and perfecting this process for ages. Modern soaps usually include new, atypical or advanced ingredients but the essential idea of soap as we know it is based on these original versions. Don't be fooled, though - this is NOT your grandmother's lye soap!
While there are many different ways to create or make soap, we, among many, believe that the cold process method is best. It is known to create gentle soaps that after curing for up to 6 weeks, produce long-lasting bars with superior lather, creaminess and moisturization.
Traditional soap making techniques like this, allow us to use only the best natural ingredients and essential and fragrance oils to produce soap that’s even suitable for sensitive skin.
We use all natural plant oils and butters in our soaps. While all oils and butters provide different characteristics to a bar of soap, our recipe(s) are formulated to produce a creamy lather that can penetrate skin deep to help with skin irritations like dry skin in the wintertime to eczema and psoriasis.
Just like many of us are drawn to colorful paintings or artistic food, we believe that color plays a big role in the craftsmanship and simplicity of the soap. No two are alike; each individual and unique as us. We like to play with texture and senses - and hopefully provide a little silkiness or scrub too. While we hope to inspire, calm, energize and/or cleanse with our final product, no artificial colors or additives are used. Only natural colorants like clays and micas, herbs and extracts are incorporated for the final touch. And while some scents are too familiar or nostalgic to pass up, any oils that are not essential in the soaps are paraben, phthalate and almost always tree nut oil free. Oftentimes, they are an essential oil and fragrance oil blend.
Our soaps are intended to be unique. Not by way of process, but through formulations, combinations and look. A mix of natural ingredients with a tried-and-true method with only skin benefits in mind. Each bar is handcrafted, hand poured, hand cut and packaged with love. Each bar different from the other, each batch just slightly different from the one before, just like us. Rough around the edges but nothing but goodness inside. We hope you enjoy our labor of love. Thanks for visiting!
